The CX truck system itself is the one that I started with as a complete beginner at surfskating, and as I have progressed I think it definitely succeeds at being the hybrid cruiser/carver together with surfskating ability it is marketed as.

I originally bought the board in both its offered configurations (Loaded offer a surfskate CX and a Paris V3 165mm setup). The CX setup was originally supplied with the orange 80A Orangatang 4President wheels and had two stacked eighth inch original Carver risers (making a 1/4" rise) installed. One of my primary aims in buying this deck as distinct to the previous surfskate completes was to have a board that I could take to as many places as possible with me. And for that purpose weight was the number one consideration.

So my change of the recommended setup to the smaller diameter 76A Love Handles wheels reduces the weight appreciably in this case, and improves the ride feel further for me as I was able to remove one of the 1/8" risers from each of the front and back without danger of wheelbite.

The wheel change does not adversely affect performance (for me at least) although I had 4President blues which I tried out on it in the early stages, that do give more speed both when deep pumping and rolling. The smaller Love Handles wheels that I now prefer are a bit more nimble on the other hand and as mentioned weigh less so it's what I now ride on this deck. The slight reduction in wheel diameter also makes for a lower ride platform which I generally like.

Aesthetically speaking I also like the narrower wheels here, that line up better with the sides of the deck. Not as important a factor here, as on a pushing board I admit, but I think it makes a difference to me in the dynamics of carving confidently, and reducing the danger of footbite in my case. I generally place my front foot (goofy) over the back bolts of the front CX trucks at a 30-45 degree angle facing forwards and toeside pumps have not been an issue from this point of view.

The flexibility in back foot positioning is the real star for me on this board though. Its subtle back wheel wells don't interfere at all with any choice of stance that allows placing of my rear foot anywhere on the kicktail, or even forward of the back trucks. This range of positioning and overhang of the back foot being possible on both sides in this area gives tremendous power generation in pumps, carves and what I call 'follow throughs' (the board first seems to lag the body fling forwards and it accelerates in a direction to catch up to the rider's feet which have lightened the load through the body decompression movement).

During this, the back leg is also able to add some power to the board which accelerates it forwards to where the body has moved out. It was only recently during one of these back foot unloaded moments that gave me my first successful back foot slide kickout on this very board. I knew before it happened that I had been close but it was a huge moment for me.

What I have realised is that in all of these more explosive surfskating oriented movements, the upper body becomes increasingly important to synchronise with what the feet will need to do – and the stereotypical arm and upper body movements that give surfing its 'look' and 'flow' emerge out of necessity here even on concrete. If one wants to make the turns with momentum to spare for further propulsion then the entire body needs to become in tune with that motion that makes it possible. So using the CX definitely gives one the ability to make this kind of riding possible and satisfying.

My ongoing progression for surfskating is all being done on this board (although I do ride some of the other complete surfskates when the opportunity allows). The upper body movements are more challenging to commit fully to, without trusting the board to be there for you. And that trust comes from experience, and that comes with practice, and that in turn comes from having time available to do these awesome things.

So at present I am really trying to develop these upper body movements to enhance my flow. What is exciting to know, is that these skills in surfskating can flow into the key techniques of other board sports.

Coming back to the deck itself though; I would grade it as quite rigid with barely one centimeter of up/down movement with a 190lb load; and this despite having a laminated bamboo in fibreglass sandwich construction. The Poke decks I received, at least the one that I am using actively could very well have been purchased by the local retailer as B-grade stock from Loaded, due to some obvious cosmetic blemishes it had in the grip-tape which I was able to fix with some judicious massaging with the handle end of a screwdriver. (The presence of the local retailer price tag for just the deck discovered under the risers and the delivery of the board to me with the CX trucks reversed - ie. front and back trucks were attached at the wrong ends, made me think this even more. I was not harmed by this back to front assembly, but I check these things carefully when I first receive them and would urge everyone to do so for their own sake and safety).

The CX trucks don't have a novel mechanical means such as springs to dampen and assist truck motions; but rather depend on their angle and bushing setup to allow the front truck to behave in the surfskate like way they do. They are inherently loose but can be adjusted via the kingpin like traditional skate trucks. Both the back and front trucks on mine are set up such that the bottom edge of the first thread is barely visible - ie. the top of the kingpin is almost flush with the bolt with only a slight elevation of its dome palpable/visible.

Coming back to the exposed fibreglass sandwich construction, I found that when this Poke deck is carried by its edges in the palm of the hand, that small fibreglass splinters can pierce into the skin and cause annoying sharp pains later. I only realised what was happening when I was able to remove one of these splinters using magnification and fine tweezers from my hand. (Applying a good quality masking tape across the affected areas and pulling opposite to the likely direction of needle entry can also provide relief of irritation in sensitive skin).

My longer term solution to the problem was to paint the entire edge of the deck with several coats of a clear urethane varnish. Obviously this can be affected by edge impacts and so on, but my controlled surfskate usage of this deck does not involve popping/kicking/flipping, so such damage is unlikely and mercifully means that my hands are safe from the splinters now. I have found that it is a common issue on many decks (Loaded Icarus was another one I found with this issue) and I paint the edges of all the boards that have exposed fibreglass edges with the clear urethane varnish for this reason.

As for the overall performance of this Poke CX setup, it should be enough to say that it is almost always with me and wherever I go I am on the lookout for chances to do a few circuits of any interesting concrete I spot. The tight turn circles possible make for easy and confident steering when cruising and carving anywhere including around people. It's a real joy to ride in pretty much any situation I can imagine in urban settings (except downhill for me - trucks are way too loose).

One of the key features that make the Poke CX especially versatile in all these situations for me is the ability to readily commence pumping and get going from a standing start even when it is slightly uphill.

So I guess if the Loaded Poke CX was among them, and there was only one board that I could choose to keep out of all the others, then I think this would be very close to being it. But then again why would I settle with just one when I can have as many awesome boards as I care to obtain and maintain?

In summary I think the Loaded Poke CX is satisfying for both dedicated surfskate type drills and any cruising/carving whenever and wherever one is lucky enough to have some time riding it.

The next board that I plan to review (Loaded / Pantheon Trip collab) is sneaking in a presence at the top of the picture below.

My front leg on the Loaded Poke CX, always ready for a ride...

Longboard Riding / Pumping

Shortly after purchasing the Carver Greenroom with CX trucks and experiencing it first hand, I was instantly hooked to the entire feel of gliding on smooth concrete according to the flow of one's body motions. The subtle pushes from the feet and the resulting feedback from the board during the ride is incredible to sense and incremental improvements in control are wonderful experiences to be sure.

Riding a longboard successfully is in essence an observable integration between the real world and the forces it manifests during a ride, represented in the brain as electrical signals that are used to compute all the balancing and movement necessary to stay upright. It is truly a miraculous thing when you think about it all happening in real time.

So it did not take long before I was looking at all the other disciplines within the longboarding scene and began acquiring examples of the boards necessary to achieve my goals in mastering the essentials of each.

The most important benefit of starting with surfskating for me personally was that it provided the important progression needed to perform deep and powerful carves which could increase speed quite explosively when needed. I can for example use these techniques on my Loaded x Pantheon Trip collab to ride endlessly as if on a snowboard (more like a cloud for me personally) given a flattish surface as long as there is no strong headwind.

The techniques of surfskating that start from an ankle wiggle progressing to knee and hip wobble, to a body compression and rotation, and beyond are hard to relay completely. For me at least, many of these moves were acquired by watching videos of others doing them. The brain has a special class of neurons (brain cells) that are called 'mirror neurons' and these are activated in the very regions that would perform an action in the real world, without activating the muscles that would do it for real.

So think for example of watching someone pouring tea from a pot into a glass. There are people who when observing this, who will have firing in the very same areas of their brain that normally activate to do the same action that they are watching, but without their arm moving and doing it. The purpose or utility of these mirror neurons are not entirely proven by science, but I am certain that the ability of some people to progress quicker can be linked to their brain's ability to mirror the action being observed. Surely this is an essential survival enhancing skill for the creatures that have this system in-built.

Of course the slight nuances, the change of weight distribution between feet and lean of body to achieve moves and so on, need a degree of trial and error during riding also, as observation does not always reveal these hidden elements which must necessarily be learned by experience or good tuition.

Surfskating is (and certainly has been for me) I think, the ideal starting point for learning how to pump or carve on any other longboard. Once the pumping technique is acquired properly it can be used (in my experience again, at least), on any other board whether it was designed for it or not, as long as it is setup (loose trucks, appropriate bushings) for it.

There are four longboards in particular up to this point that have given me the most satisfaction in achieving progression in this way and they are all from the Loaded brand..

Left to right...

'Tessy' - Loaded Basalt Tesseract, Paris V3.50 Medium knuckle bushings and 86A Orangatang Stimulus

'Platty' - Loaded Tarab II Flex 2, Paris V3.50 Soft knuckle bushings and 86A Orangatang Fat Free

'Fishy' - Loaded Poke, Carver CX trucks with stock bushings, 76A Orangatang Love Handles

Loaded x Pantheon Trip collaboration (2022), Soft knuckle bushings otherwise all stock 80A Orangatang Caguama

I plan to write and continue to update my experiences of these boards and how they evolve as they have all had a few important but limited number of other options tried on them. These particular formulations are what I am riding regularly at the time of publication of this introduction to these key four boards in my progression up to this point.

We shall start with the Loaded Poke with Carver CX, trucks which even from these four would be my go-to board atm. More to come on this soon.

Surf-skating

The beginning of spring this year (2022), re-awakened a thrill for me that I had barely experienced for decades in the form of skateboarding; or more accurately longboarding. I had actually previously bought (around 8 years ago) a drop-through design Landyachtz Switchblade 38 through a local bricks and mortar store but had used it a handful of times. I had quickly assessed that the risk of continuing to ride it and falling would make for too big a disruption to my grand plans at that time.

And I had no idea that it would re-enter my life until I witnessed earlier this year a small group of 'onewheel' users tearing up a local Brisbane river walk/ride path; and being intrigued at whether it would be something suitable for me given that I had considered getting a Segway (that was the original gyroscopically commanded transport device) around a decade ago (I didn't end up getting one mainly because of strict restrictions on where they could be used).

The potential for a new boarding life continued to remain on hold until I became aware of it again in the phenomenon of surfskating. After seeing this I could resist no longer and I purchased a Carver Greenroom complete (with CX trucks). It did not take long before I was wanting to experience more and the search for the perfect instrument of pleasure had started. In the meantime I made myself busy learning the ways of carving and pumping in order to 'surf' the vast tracts of concrete present in urban settings.

Surfskating is distinct from traditional 'skateboarding' in that it allows one to ride for long stretches without pushing in the usual manner, and this was the greatest appeal of the discipline to me at first, as was the fact that the most technical riding techniques had applicability to other board sports like surfing which I had always intended to do 'some day'.

It took me only a few days to really begin to get the pumping techniques down through small but important epiphanies. But the learning does not stop and even now some months later, I still discover ever so subtle effects from placing feet a different way or modifying a body position or lean etc.

The thing that helped me most early on was watching videos of adept riders who made the relationship between body movement to board motion effects evident (my 'mirror neurons' must be important here), and watching an 'infinite loop' of turns on a surfskate is quite mesmerising to see. The rider's body flows in space in a magical way. Those who can do it show a complete understanding of the trust between the rider and the board in relation to the mechanics of gravity.

I should say that at this point (several months in), I am able to do a 'lazy' eight shape ie. infinite loop but without the explosive power that the endless technique in tight formation requires. My longer term aim is to be able to do this readily, and each surfskating session I am able to do brings me closer to that goal. The side effect while I'm building up to it, is that I've done no other leg type exercise in my life before this that I enjoy more; and the benefits in strength and power are quite noticeable in all other activities also.

I hope to share more of my experiences in surfskating (and also longboarding) as I get the opportunity to do so; together with reviews of some of my boards and equipment. This is also re-igniting a very old film-making ambition that has been dormant in me for a long time and this prospect is also quite exciting.

Hail Mary, plot holes…

As I get older (and who doesn't right...), I find that my tolerance of quite (obvious to me) plot holes is becoming increasingly strained. It certainly makes care free enjoyment of certain works of fiction difficult. Even more so when the fiction is heavily dependent on and even tries to show off its technical and scientific knowledge.

The one that has caused me enough trouble, such that it resulted in this post, has been "Project Hail Mary" by "Andy Weir".

Plot spoilers obviously follow...

The book is based ultimately on a novel concept of a 'cosmic superbug' - a highly unlikely organism capable of exploiting energy at the nuclear fusion level such that it obeys the energy is equal to mass times the square of the speed of light formula. Huge amounts of energy in other words.

The plot involves firstly discovering, in an internationally cosmopolitan way the presence of a solar dimming being caused by this superbug "Astrophage", meaning ostensibly 'star-eater'. The Sun's energy is being consumed at an accelerated rate by the effects of this cosmic superbug; and that means trouble for the Earth in terms of a thermodynamic death as it receives diminishing amounts of solar energy over time.

The solution?

Here's where the entire story eventually unravels.

The plot takes a crew of three, well actually one, as the other two non American astronauts don't survive the journey to a star 11 light years away that has been detected to be immune to this superbug. The reason being that whatever is giving that star system (Tau-seti) its resistance. It turns out to be a competing and balancing organism which uses 'Astrophage' as its own food source.

The story takes great troubles to explain and inform the reader about science and maths, as well as touching on topics of communication between entities. Of course, since a trip to a star system 11 light years away to accomplish the impossible needs an impossibly implausible alien lifeform which the sole surviving American astronaut ends up depending on for so much of the plot holes that require this 'deus ex machina' in order to have any semblance of being a story worthy of anyone's attention.

The problem is that the entire mission to Tau-seti requires the invention of a galactic propulsion system that turns out to use Astrophage as its fuel. Late in the story, the entire premise of the story begins to unravel when the human-alien team repairs a generator that use the Astrophage fuel in nanogram quantities to sustain quite enormous amounts of power.

Remembering that the mission required the breeding on Earth of a vast quantity of this Astrophage creature to act as fuel for the mission, the question becomes...

Why isn't the Astrophage being used on Earth in these nanogram generators to accomplish all sorts of things?

The entire 'problem' of Astrophage goes away if it is such a remarkable organism that we can breed and harvest it for use as a nuclear fusion level energy source. Think about it.

Ubuntu LXC container privilege apparmor issue with do-release-upgrade

An issue with running LXC containers and performing a release upgrade since 18.04 to 20.04 is that snapd is installed whether you are using it or not.

I chose the 4.0 stream for 'production' but before performing the release upgrade gave the following commands to

Oben

An issue with running LXC containers and performing a release upgrade since 18.04 to 20.04 is that snapd is installed whether you are using it or not.

I chose the 4.0 stream for 'production' but before performing the release upgrade gave the following commands to make sure the installation did not hang up due to apparmor privilege issues.

mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /sys/kernel/security/

It's a package that has been present in the distribution for some time and I'm hoping that more knowledge of it may lead to more adoption and better implementation in future.

tinc is mostly useful as a site to site VPN rather than a client-server connection. Ideal uses are for connecting whole networks to each other via the internet rather than a single client to a main site.

tinc does this by creating a software 'mesh' for the involved networks, building a routing table based on the connections that are, or become available on the internet, on the fly.

It establishes connections using RSA public/private key pairs so it has moderate security. The communication between networks following the initial connection can be encrypted using a cipher like 'blowfish'.

Where it excels is that it can work alongside traditional VPNs such as IPSEC as its connection port number can be customised.

Anyhow let us see how pfsense can be set up with pfsense. We will do this with two sites, Router A that has public IP address 1.2.3.4 and Router B that has public IP 6.7.8.9

On Router A 'Package / VPN Tinc Settings / Settings:

Name: tincSiteA

Local IP: 10.19.0.1

Local Subnet: 10.19.0.0/24

VPN Netmask: 255.0.0.0

Address Family: IPV4

Click the 'Generate RSA Key Pair' checkbox.

Save.

The hit the Advanced Features button and fill as follows:

Extra Tinc Parameters:
Node=router
Port=1637
Cipher=blowfish
Digest=sha1

Extra Host Parameters:
Subnet=10.19.0.0/24#10

Click Save.

The 'Subnet=.....' lines are the most important variable here. Usually you will have a line with the same subnet that you typed above as your LAN IP and subnet to share but any number of 'Subnet=' lines can be placed here if you want to share them. Note that these lines are placed on the Router where the network is located in order to identify that the Router has the network present and available.

The '#10' is a priority indicator. If you have 3 sites and two have the same subnet numbers present, then the lower number for priority will be the one that gets routed when the mesh is established. If one of the sites becomes unavailable then there will still be a connection to one or the other depending on this priority.

On Router B... 'Package / VPN Tinc Settings / Settings:

Name: tincSiteB

Local IP: 10.38.0.1

Local Subnet: 10.38.0.0/24

VPN Netmask: 255.0.0.0

Address Family: IPV4

Click the 'Generate RSA Key Pair' checkbox.

Save.

The hit the Advanced Features button and fill as follows:

Extra Tinc Parameters:
Node=router
Port=1637
Cipher=blowfish
Digest=sha1

Extra Host Parameters:
Subnet=10.38.0.0/24#10

Click Save.

After this is done, the 'Hosts' tab should be clicked and '+Add' selected. The case which involves possibly the most intense debate on ownership that humans could imagine.

The ownership of a child, an offspring which is contended by two mothers. The ruling was to destroy the child by cutting it in two. Perhaps with the sadistic idea of giving one half to each.

And the wisdom is thereby uncovered of the mother relinquishing the child with the thought that they would rather see the child live in the hands of an impostor... than to commit them to sure death, if the ruling is implemented.

But is that what a mother would really do? Would they give up a child to live in a world of iniquity and falsehood for a time? The mother's of Moses and Joseph might have thought of this question at some point perhaps.

So the advocate asks, is there a mother on earth who might rather the child dies than to be left in the hands of a liar.

For we have to remember that the mother has to lie herself and become the one she must despise surely.

Could she truly sell the truth for the survival of a child?

Perhaps this is the question that was asked of Abraham also. The survival of a child versus the agony of seeing one's own decision or action result in a future very different to the present.

Abraham distinguished himself by being ever true to the belief and faith in God that if the vision he saw was true then he would know it was for the Will of God that he was doing it. Not for himself or for the child. For The God.

That's why the story of the ultimately lying but genuine mother fails to impress me. I think the right thing is to always pursue the truth and accept and believe that The God will deliver the most righteous outcome (in this case the child) to you and not let it be sacrificed unjustly. That in effect is the story of Abraham and why following the path set for him is the one we should all strive to follow also.

The Future

2020 is a year that prior to it coming around, held something of an underlying theme to someone trained as an ophthalmologist since saying "twenty, twenty" is widely and generally understood as referring to a desirable state of essentially normal vision.

Vision for the future; except that the

Oben

2020 is a year that prior to it coming around, held something of an underlying theme to someone trained as an ophthalmologist since saying "twenty, twenty" is widely and generally understood as referring to a desirable state of essentially normal vision.

Vision for the future; except that the vision required to see the future has nothing whatsoever to do with the eyes. In fact the future is something that much of my reading this year had started to bring into focus as something that was more illusion or construct than something real.

Most people would order the sequence of time in their minds such that the past is behind and the future ahead of them. It surprises them that some humans or cultures have seen it the opposite way - such that the past is in front of them since it is something they have seen and done already and the future which they can't see is behind them.

Yet time reveals itself to some people who examine it further to be an illusion of the mind. That there is actually only one point in time - an everlasting present - with any apparent flow or movement through "time" merely a construct of the human mind that is as much a means of survival as any other pervasive thought or mechanism of consciousness designed so.

The future is both for these people and for those who think of it conventionally, a potential which is unrealised as yet.

For it to be realised, the motions at play in the present unfold their destinations in the physical world; but the hidden or unseen plays a role here also - chiefly in the form of intentions and promises.

The future for humans is built upon the edifice of promises and is only as bright or sure as what our minds can make it. With truth and integrity as its foundation then the future is just as solid and reliable as the present in which the builders of that future remain steadfast in keeping the essential thing that makes the future so.

Promises. The promise of truth is what the future is built upon. When the truth becomes absent, when promises are broken, when intentions are deviated the future collapses into chaos.

The "twenty, twenty" future requires integrity and minds that understand the key to unlocking its potential fully; by keeping all promises and basing everything on truth and true measures.

The God has provided detailed instructions on how everyone can achieve success by establishing these principles in a pervasive way in their lives. Ultimately it all starts with establishing righteous intentions and then keeping the promise to make it so.

The Market Standoff

Like I've written on recently I think the only reason that markets haven't already collapsed utterly is that incomplete or poor assumptions on the economy are being used by machine trading platforms, which dominate the trading taking place.

The algorithms the machines are trading upon are

Oben

Like I've written on recently I think the only reason that markets haven't already collapsed utterly is that incomplete or poor assumptions on the economy are being used by machine trading platforms, which dominate the trading taking place.

The algorithms the machines are trading upon are based mostly on fair-weather models which just cannot see the dire situation ahead for the real economy where people need real food (and toilet paper).

Back-testing (on historical data) which these algorithms are built upon will not help see forwards since situations such as previous crises like the GFC resulted in massive market interference by the Federal Reserve. The interventions of the Fed in markets over the past decade has distorted outcomes so much so that any assumptions of V shaped recoveries are completely and utterly insane this time in my opinion.

I won't discuss the specifics of why as I have already touched upon it with my posts on the insanity of printing more money as debt to cure an inherent massive debt problem and the inflationary pressures that the tsunami of money that ultimately flows into the stock market has the potential to cause.

What I want to discuss however is the current situation where even if the human controllers of the machines decide that it's time to get out - that they are not going to be able to do it without causing a collapse of truly unseen proportions. They're effectively trapped like water is trapped in a dam.

We are watching a kind of wild west standoff where no one is game to pull the trigger to exit because the consequences of one entity panicking is that the rush to get out causes a guaranteed obliteration of everyone in short order.

Not only is there nowhere else to really go by exiting the stock market - but the exit will reveal how silly current prices are as there will be no bid and sadly there is little value to be bought as the prices to which the markets corrected in March were still an order of magnitude higher than traditionally accepted price to earnings ratios.

Remember that companies on the stock market are priced on the margin. A companies value is not based on the sale of its entire shares all at once but rather on simply the last share sold.

It won't take many of these high frequency trading machines to be triggered to lead to a meltdown of the market - explaining why circuit breaker conditions exist in the stock markets nowadays. Drops of 15% or more result in trading halts to give the human controllers and so called investors a chance to take stock of what is happening.

Unfortunately I think this time there won't be a floor. Just like the historic negative prices in oil futures we witnessed in April 2020, the price that some companies are going to fall to will astound people - when stocks people were paying hundreds of dollars per share are reduced to mere cents on the dollar it is going to leave a market wondering what on earth has happened.

When markets fall the reports always talk about $X millions or billions have been "lost" or "wiped out" from the stock market. In fact no money has been truly lost because there is no money in the stock market itself. The money flows between buyers and sellers and there is no vault or pool of money somewhere in the stock market itself that is being erased magically.

The value is fictitious in the sense that it is based only on what the participants (buyers and sellers) actions value it at. If there is no buyer then the value is zero, plain and simple. The money hasn't been lost - it's still out there in the economy - or is it?

There's the rub. The stock market like any other should be just a mechanism for the efficient allocation of resources based on perceived values between buyers and sellers. The buyer has the money, the seller has the stock. The price is agreed and it flows between them - it doesn't sit somewhere in the market. Markets just create the means for the flow of money - not the money or the resource itself. A market should be a price discovery mechanism - and it has to be free in order to do so. When it is manipulated or distorted then unintended consequences are inevitably triggered.

The values of shares on the stock market over the past decade have been inflated by the flow of money created ultimately by central banks. The valuations are simply a reflection of the volumes of money that have flowed through the market and a great proportion of that flow has come from all the stimulus that has been created. This is the underlying mechanism of bubbles.

The money is never in the market. It flows through and is always outside of it. A stock market crash doesn't destroy the money that has already flowed through it. It has destroyed the assumed value of the people who are left with the shares/scrip/paper/bag - whatever you want to call it when it all implodes. The money is not with them - it's with the people who sold to them - and so it's still out there somewhere. And it's unlikely to be in your hands.

That huge pool of money is still out there and will have to go somewhere.

The debt based money system means that when a unit of currency is lent into the economy it leaves behind a placeholder with the central bank balance sheet which is like a tether to the debt based money that is being used in the economy.

So the money out there can either be used to inflate some other asset to higher perceived value or it can go home to destroy its placeholder at the central bank. The value of the issued debt (what it will buy) is based solely on confidence by the holders that it has value - nothing else or more than that.

The question is where the money will go next. In the case of a hyperinflation the debt becomes so worthless that its value evaporates in people's minds so that no one wants it for anything real anymore.

That is what people need to consider most. Are nations willing to give away their real assets, resources, land etc. in exchange for paper promises?

So the standoff continues and all that is left in my opinion is waiting for when the first shot will be fired. I don't think it will be long before the delusion of the crowds are revealed and the collapse begins in earnest and collapse it must.

People who desire true freedom must understand that it must be allowed to collapse as if it is not allowed to collapse then the tragedy of perpetual slavery to the false money power will continue.

People have to wake up to the fact that they are slaves to this money power - they have been used like farm animals and are being treated exactly that way however unaware they are of it.

People are being exploited as a resource and the future that is being painted for them - of ongoing surveillance, of tracking and chips, travel and payment controls and forced medication - are equivalent to the state of a farm animal with its branding and fencing and continued exploitation. Think about it for a while and ask the question - who is your farmer?

Writers of the past have described these future dystopias in various forms - and we are on the doorstep of a future which must be created by the people - not the so called elite who have brought us to where we are right now.

Beware, beware...

Who is Buying?

The events on world stock markets (I follow the US and Australian markets in general) have been illuminating in some ways over the past month or two.

As I've indicated on previous posts - the amount of distortion occurring because of central bank interventions - means there is

Oben

The events on world stock markets (I follow the US and Australian markets in general) have been illuminating in some ways over the past month or two.

As I've indicated on previous posts - the amount of distortion occurring because of central bank interventions - means there is no true free market left on earth. There is no true price discovery mechanism and without this key element - markets become hazardous for anyone searching for a return on their investment.

So what is the point of this post - Who is buying?

It's a question that I think is important since the markets are certainly not being driven by the average person on the street. It's clear that it's big players such as sovereign wealth funds, investment banks, superannuation cos, hedge funds and so on who are the actors.

But are these entities being driven by actual humans? Is it really a question of who is buying - or is it a question of what is buying?

I am convinced that the market activity we have witnessed over the past 2 months - which is completely and utterly irrational to an average person like me - must be being analysed and acted upon in non human ways.

Consider that unemployment is soaring, supply chains are shattered, oil is in a glut, interest rates are close to zero or negative, companies are zombified - bankrupt - or facing negative growth and profit projections - and still the market is going up?

It's a situation that can only be explained by the fact that markets are being played virtually completely by computer algorithmic trading platforms.

These programs obviously have no emotion in the game and play the stock market based on price action and trawling of data scraped from news and other sources as well. Proprietary systems no doubt - with much secrecy.

I believe that what is happening is so novel for these programs that they are completely misjudging the true situation. While chess and other game playing programs have strict rules to base their decisions on, these stock market (HFT) machines are playing the stock market game based on assumptions I think that have become severely stretched for credibility.

At some point truth and reality must destroy the charade the stock markets have become and there will be I think plunges so wild that they will wipe out all the illusions being generated by the parametric trading that we are still witnessing now.

The current stock markets are akin to a ghost town in my very human view.

We are living through a time when machines are simply churning through the capital remaining (and extra stimulus money) allocating it much like a Pachinko machine according to their programs. Ever hungry for more money to be fed into their slots so to speak.

There won't be V or L shaped recoveries that the computer programs obviously assume. Not with the monetary and fiscal policy in place now. What we will see is that as the true purchasing power of the dollar shrinks - after all a computer never has to buy itself a meal or toilet paper - the numerical games these machines are playing will become more and more irrelevant in the real world. The numbers will no longer be measures of true money or true value.

The 2019- "Pandemic"

This is my first piece on the virus pandemic directly even though some of the articles I've published over the past few weeks have been related to the effects.

From my point of view looking at the numbers it's plain to see that this is not

Oben

This is my first piece on the virus pandemic directly even though some of the articles I've published over the past few weeks have been related to the effects.

From my point of view looking at the numbers it's plain to see that this is not the extinction level threat from a medical point of view that the media have been narrating. The impact is arising from part of the name of the virus - it's novelty and more importantly the novelty of the response to it.

For many it's the end of the world as they knew it and they'll be mourning its passing. Again it's not the virus itself but the measures such as lockdowns and so called social distancing which have caused the issues.

For others including me it's not just the end of the old ways, it's a beginning. A beginning of new ways of cohabiting the earth with each other and with the natural world.

The events in my eyes have brought out an inordinate fear of death in people (against the numbers and facts) and while it might be considered natural to fear death in a way, I wonder why people didn't worry as much about the death that was happening in Iraq and in Africa all through the past few decades for example.

So while our situation is novel it's not altogether bad that humanity has been given a timeout. A chance to think about what we were doing and what me might do in the future.

It was novel for humanity to, in a century burn through almost all of the hydrocarbon resources of the world seeking profits and thrills.

There was no question in any sane person's mind that it would have had to have ended someday whether we wanted it or not. That what we were doing was unsustainable should have been obvious.

The current situation should make people examine closer the machinations of the world.

The examples of greed ruling over need.

The examples of waste over conservation.

The examples of decadence over modesty.

I hope that people can look seriously at the true wounds that were present way before the virus. The real illness of the world was already on the verge of killing us as coherent, peaceful and nurturing societies.

The virus pandemic might turn out to be the pivot point for humanity being able to return not to the old ways where everyone took things for granted always - to one where we are mindful of our actions and strive for better things achieved through moral use of the world's resources in ethical ways for us and future generations.

PS: My view on the "pandemic" nature of this coronavirus is again based on the NOVELTY aspect of it. Coronaviruses are not new and are responsible for familiar common colds and flu like illnesses.

This coronavirus appears to just have a new name and an agenda behind it - whether pre-meditated or an example of not letting a good crisis go to waste - time will tell.

The numbers in Australia from the very start have shown up the "pandemic" as being somewhat farcical since influenza kills more people every year than this has by far.

The measures taken have been extraordinarily over-the-top and seemed to me from the very start to be being used as a scapegoat or cover for the bailouts which are being handed out to all the corporate beggars in the world's zombie economies and so called markets.

Transparency

What has been remarkable for me over the past few months is the increasing transparency of how and why things were the way they were.

Notice that it's in the past tense. Humans tend to obscure things to others to hide the mechanisms and forces that make things happen. Like in "The Wizard of Oz" where the revelation of the underlying mechanism brings out the truth or reality.

Examples of this for me have been the conflict in Syria that has been raging for 9 years or longer - the underlying reasons for the conflict had been hidden and obscured and incomprehensible to the casual observer - but the dynamics had in recent months started to leak out and it has made the story quite coherent now.

Another example might be the emergence of whistle-blowers in many things. One has been the return of a special forces medal to the ABC by an anonymous soldier who had a grievance with the Australian Army and the publication of a video of an unarmed Afghan man being shamefully murdered in a field by an unnamed (so called) soldier after many years of being concealed.

Yet others are the forces behind world sports such as the Olympics, motor racing and ballgames where the disputes for the remaining money or what's left of it uncover the "wizards" behind the things that were previously considered normal.

It's remarkable just how much transparency is emerging as these structures begin to become threatened with destruction of the past ways.

Why is it so? (as I have been asking more and more lately)

I believe the answer is in the receding of or diminishing of the gains and secondary gains that were being extracted from the activity in question whatever it might be.

When the money or gain disappears then there is no more value in keeping the secrets that assure the ones who are gaining continue to do so.

(Hyper)Inflation

I recall being surprised when first studying the aftermath of the first worldwide war and the crisis of hyper-inflation in the Weimar Republic that ensued. This included stories many have by now heard - heaped wheelbarrows full of money to buy just loaves of bread.

So what is inflation?

Inflation is thought of by many people as being normal and doesn't itself create much alarm because of this. Central banks even admit that they target an annual inflation rate of around 2-3% as an economic goal. Such is the normality of inflation in the mind's of people that it can be openly admitted that theft is happening.

By increasing the amount of money in circulation, the central bank is reducing the purchasing power of all the existing units of money. Each unit that already exists loses purchasing power because more of it is now competing for the same number of goods, products, services etc.

This leads to the familiar increase in prices of goods and services over time. CPI - consumer price index and similar indices measure the effect of monetary policies affecting inflation that the central bank says they try to control.

In addition to increasing prices for the same good or service - inflation is often attempted to be hidden by charging the same amount for less goods or quality of goods. Less toilet paper sheets and smaller loaves of bread for example.

Unfortunately inflation is nowadays considered normal - it doesn't have to be by the way - it is accepted because it has become the norm through time and conditioning. Not because it is moral or proper.

Leaving that aside for now, let us come to hyperinflation - a topic that will become more debated as the effects of the trillions of dollars that are going to become more manifest in economies throughout the world. I don't think anyone would have expected at the turn of the millennium that the world's reserve currency - the US dollar or Federal Reserve Note more accurately - would be at the precipice of an event that has been studied many times.

Weimar is probably the most well known. Zimbabwe and it's trillion dollar notes is more recent but there are countless examples in the last century and prior. The most interesting of past events I think is John Law in Louisiana.

So what is hyperinflation exactly?

I have thought about it at length and believe it is best defined as:

"The process by which there is reducing and then ultimately no bid on the currency"

If you consider that any good or thing could be chosen as the medium of exchange for an economy. It could be paper notes or clam shells - the medium itself doesn't matter as much as the confidence in that medium or currency. Like an electrical current or a water current - the chosen thing acts as the medium by which value flows from one person to another.

When people or entities transact - they make bids on things and the opposite party makes an offer - and if a price can be discovered that makes each party equally happy (or unhappy) then a transaction takes place.

In hyperinflation - the medium of currency - becomes so devalued (devoid of value) that no one wants it. No one offers their goods for it because it is seen for what it is - just paper or plastic. Why would anyone make a bid on low value paper with their valuable loaf of bread?

The observant reader will notice that a loaf of bread has been mentioned twice already - and that is where hyperinflation hits - not in the price of luxury goods or those things that are not essential for survival.

It's important to remember that societies are coherent and ordered as long as everyone can be sure of their next three meals or so. When that is at risk - then chaos is around the corner so to speak. It's not when they are considering buying a supercar or a new phone.

Hyperinflation is a phenomenon of troubled and lean times - the countries or places it occurs are in trouble where the people are no longer concerned about the latest and greatest phone or tablet. They are concerned about their next meal and no one is assured of being able to secure it.

As the economy collapses at the top - with all the illusions of wealth crumbling away in front of people's eyes - and money is poured in by central banks trying to pay the usury (however small the amount - a small percentage of a large number is still a large number) then the purchasing power of the notes becomes increasingly worthless.

Hyperinflation manifests then in the increasing prices of essential items which everyone needs.

Why this is so is obvious to me at least.

When the supply of the essential things diminishes in the battered economy (recall that hyperinflation is a phenomenon of troubled times - not a booming economy) then everyone - from the bankers to the disenfranchised are all competing for the same remaining essential items in the economy. Food is the primary good that everyone needs.

That is where hyperinflation will become manifest and be observed by participants first. The price for food goes up exponentially since the supply of currency is similarly going up exponentially.

In "normal" times people willingly make bids on currency by exchanging their goods and services for it. Hyperinflation is then just the process by which the bids on inherently worthless currency with real valuable things extinguishes.

Debt and Usury - the solution.

All around the world central banks have been approaching and going below zero interest rates so many people are now aware of zero interest rate scenarios as reality.

This would have been considered absolutely incredulous by classical economists since a zero-interest rate situation essentially declares that there is no time

Oben

All around the world central banks have been approaching and going below zero interest rates so many people are now aware of zero interest rate scenarios as reality.

This would have been considered absolutely incredulous by classical economists since a zero-interest rate situation essentially declares that there is no time value of money - a concept that underpins financial theories and markets.

If there is no time value for money then the money itself - if it has no inherent or intrinsic value then also comes into question - especially when money is all fiat (by decree) and able to be printed into existence without any constraints as is the situation currently.

While this is complete anathema to financialism - a zero interest rate is what moral codes like Christianity and Islam demand in order to avoid the pitfalls (like we see in the world) of one group of people living like parasites off the backs of others.

This "wealth" gap and inequality is at stupendous levels at present. Individuals who have so much of this monopoly money that they nor generations of their descendants couldn't spend it in their lifetimes.

So debate and conversation is beginning to revolve around debt forgiveness or jubilees in order to reboot the system and bring things back to reality.

Unfortunately not only would debt forgiveness cause massive disruption and disorder - it would still be tremendously unfair just like bailouts are at the essence unfair.

Bailouts and forgiveness of debts cause moral hazard - and set in concrete an injustice where the profits are privatised and the risk and losses are transferred to the public. The bailed out entities keep all the rewards without risk of loss.

If the forgiveness is extended to private citizens - think of the conservative and moral citizen who has kept their debt levels low to non-existent versus the one who has leveraged themselves up to their eyeballs.

The latter has say 40 or 50 investment properties which have been progressively leveraged into by artificial inflation of the property market - more and more debt leads to higher and higher book values.

Now how would debt forgiveness be fair in this situation?

If the debt is cancelled, the lending organisation nationalised and the properties are then liquidated by an independent audited entity for whatever the market price is following the jubilee - then there is a chance that there is a fair outcome.

On the other hand - a forgiveness where the bank or the "investor" keeps the properties following a cancellation leaves a very unfair situation against the conservative individual and is not what a jubilee or debt forgiveness should be done under.

The best situation would be to make interest rates - all interest rates everywhere, zero effective immediately. All payments would be for principal only and no further debt would be extended until an ability to service existing debt is demonstrated.

If the debt was still burdensome with a zero interest rate - then the only option is bankruptcy and liquidation.

This is the only way to attain a situation of true price discovery.

Humans are doomed as the saying goes to repeat history - over and over. The ancients knew that usury was untenable - it always leads to immense evil, oppression and hardship in the end.

People will always be divided into the hosts and the parasites when usury (interest rates above zero) is permitted.

Zero interest forever - willingly or unwillingly - is the answer.

The Everything Bailout

As a follow on from the trillions post earlier today... listening to the radio... all the polititians are talking effectively what amounts to bailout after bailout of industry after industry.

How far does this have to go?

While all the blame is being put on the "unprecedented" (easily

Oben

As a follow on from the trillions post earlier today... listening to the radio... all the polititians are talking effectively what amounts to bailout after bailout of industry after industry.

How far does this have to go?

While all the blame is being put on the "unprecedented" (easily the most clichéd word over the past few weeks) lockdowns - the truth is that the financial health of the world has been in continuous jeopardy since the bailouts started back in 2008.

This is not a new problem - it's simply the dénouement of the events that are now termed the GFC (Global Financial Crisis). The Crisis never ended. It was a debt problem - it still is a debt problem.

In fact there was no solution at all in the first place. The crisis was actually turned into a much bigger crisis - that the world is facing once more and until the true solution is accepted there will be continued events of caps in hand.... "please sir, can I have some more?"

What the world needs is a restoration of sanity.

Sanity in the form of what is truly required. Bankruptcy, job losses, liquidation.

If it is not sustainable - then just accept that it is not acceptable to continue pushing it forward with illusory money that doesn't exist. The trillions are fantasy. No one has done trillions of work and the work will never happen and the debt will never be made good. Ever. Mathematically impossible.

Morally reprehensible.

And those who are begging for bailouts are in my view not just financially bankrupt - but showing that as societies and civilisations - we are morally bankrupt because no one accepts the medicine.

These debts that are unpayable must be written off. Companies, infrastructure, and the means of production must be freed from the tyranny of the banking and ruling classes by declaring once and for all that the system is BANKRUPT.

LIQUIDATION is the answer - NOT MORE DEBT. NOT MORE BAILOUTS. NOT MORE UNPAYABLE TRILLIONS.

Is the world brave enough to free the slaves?

Are the slaves brave enough to demand that these unsustainable corporations that have raped the world and left it bankrupt should be erased and new ideas, new managements and real work, effort and money should return to rebuild the world in the sustainable way that morally intact people demand?
