How to delete your unwanted Facebook account.

I hate Facebook. I hate its inception story, and its "culture" and in the past have tried to delete my account only to find it was only made dormant so that one still received the occassional email inviting you back or saying there were new friends searching for you, or other nonsense designed to get you back into the marketing influence field Facebook really is.

A (true) friend shared with me a link which promises to end that zombie Facebook account for good and as a favour to the web at large I share the link with you below. I just did it and it says my account will be permanently deleted in 14 days. Knowing Facebook they'll probably wait till the last nanosecond, and try some more weaseling to get me to use the account somehow. Their $1 billion purchase of a web picture repository company recently saw more unsolicited email to me a few weeks back. Anyhow, it said 14 days... so far so good.

Edit: So I got an automated email or two from Facebook about this; the first thing  was a password helper form letter, because I'd forgotten the password I used through disuse. That should tell them something in itself. Then the next email they offer is a "remorse" option to get back into their marketing influence field...

At least it's a confirmation that they received the request. Let's hope it's almost the last email I receive from them. We'll see and I'll update if there are any developments.
